Overall, professional basketball did not provide a “nest egg” or a favorable financial circumstance for most former American Basketball Association players and their families. In 2015, almost fifty years after the Merger, it is clear that many former ABA players, personnel, and their immediate families have suffered and continue to suffer from sickness and significant financial hardship.
The players, coaches, and fans of the ABA have always been a unique and close-knit family. Dropping Dimes Foundation wishes to identify those ABA players who have encountered unfortunate circumstances, and provide them with financial assistance to address their situation.
Put simply, we aim to “give back” to deserving ABA players and personnel who provided significant entertainment and excitement to fans in the 1960’s and 1970’s, but have been forgotten today in the midst of significant financial distress or sickness.
